We've just returned from a great trip to Eastern Cape, RSA. This was my girlfriend Sandras first hunt in RSA and my third. And my second to Eastern Cape. My friend Anders Fedje joined us as well. It was his first trip also, but I guess not his last.
We had more or less decided before we went what we wanted to shoot, but as normal on a hunt like this you come back with more.
We hunted with Safari Trails International and PH Russell Lovemore. I hunted with him i 2006 as well. Since then he had made a new camp. One word sums up what this camp looked like - WOW!
We started off by hunting blesboks. A common one for Sandra and a white one for me. After a couple of blown stalks we finally succeded. We litterally shot a doublè. Sandra shot her's perfectly and tossed the gun to me. The white one hang around long enough for me to take him.
In the next few days we had lots of great hunting experiences. We both shot warthog. First I shot a fine male after an exciting stalk. Sandra had decided she didn't want one, but after inspecting the fallen hog closer, she decided to try for one as well. Two days later she got this nice female hog.
Sandra shot her kudu perfectly at appr. 150 m. After a short run it fell over. We had many close encounters with kudu before she got it. On three other occasions she litterally had her finger gently pushing the trigger when the kudus dissappeared. This kudu measured 44-45", and is a nice EC kudu.
The hunt for a cape springbok turned into something special. Many people think Africa is just burning sun and perfect weather. Not this day. 13 degrees celsius. Rain. Thunder and lightning. Elements that added to the experience. Here's Sandra posing with the ram, together with tracker Mike, PH Russell and the dogs, Diesel and Fudge.
Thanks for reading part I of our hunt report from RSA. Stay tuned for more in a couple of days!
